Plaza De La Raza Honor J.J.

On July 8th, 1989, The Plaza de la Raza honored J. J. Rodriguez for his lifelong contribution to the growth and development of Plaza de la Raza and improving the quality of life in the community.

J.J. Rodriguez is a native Angelino who has always been concerned with the improvement of the quality of life of our city. In that capacity he has been an active member of the Mexican American Community and strong union leader. He has held various leadership posts throughout his illustrious union career. He is former Vice President of the Labor Council for Latin Americas Advancement, former Executive Secretary for Butchers Local 563, Former Vice President for the Western Federation of Butchers of California, former member of the Advisory Council to the Executive Board of Amalgamated meat cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America, AFL-CIO. And he is the current president for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.

He is also very active in his community and in that capacity he has served as member of the 1984 Olympic Games Organization Committee, member of the Mayor’s Committee on Volunteerism, Chairman of the Governor’s Industrial Welfare Commission under Pat Brown, and of course, former president of the Board of Plaza de la Raza.

J.J. Rodriguez is married, has 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
